Practice questions, peer video explanations, and a mastery path that adapts to your progress. No paywall — just free SAT prep.
Paid and free SAT-prep options differ in price, content, structure, and access. Students should compare the current offerings of each provider and choose resources that fit their needs.
We built Crystal SAT differently. It's a non-profit, free-for-all platform created by students who recently took the Digital SAT and know exactly what works. Here's what makes us different:
Real students walk through how they solved each question — their reasoning, shortcuts, and test-day strategies.
A diagnostic test identifies your weak spots, then generates a personalized study plan that adapts as you improve.
No freemium model. No \"upgrade to unlock.\" Every question, every video, every feature — free, forever.
The result is a prep platform that matches or beats paid alternatives on every metric that matters: question quality, explanation depth, personalization, and student outcomes. The only thing missing is the price tag.
The SAT went fully digital in 2024, and the new format is significantly different from the old paper test. If you're prepping with outdated materials, you're wasting your time. Here's what changed:
The adaptive format is the biggest change. The test has two Math modules and two Reading & Writing modules. How you perform on the first module determines whether your second module is harder (with a higher score ceiling) or easier. This means every question in the first module matters more — a strong start unlocks the harder second module where you can earn a higher score.
Crystal SAT's practice questions are all calibrated to the Digital SAT format. We use the same question types, the same difficulty distribution, and the same adaptive logic in our mastery path. When you practice with us, you're practicing with the test you'll actually take.
Having access to free practice questions isn't enough — you need a system. Here's the approach we recommend, based on what actually works for students:
Not everyone has the same amount of time to prepare. Here are three study plans calibrated to different timelines. Pick the one that matches your test date and commitment level.
For test-takers with a month to go. Focus on high-impact topics and test strategy.
The sweet spot for most students. Enough time to cover everything without burning out.
For students building a foundation or targeting a higher score.
Remember: consistency beats intensity. Thirty minutes every day will get you further than four hours once a week. The brain learns through repetition, not cramming.
The Digital SAT has two sections: Math, and Reading & Writing. Here's how to approach each one with Crystal SAT.
The Math section covers four domains: Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving & Data Analysis, and Geometry & Trigonometry. The built-in calculator means the test focuses more on reasoning and less on computation. Practice translating word problems into equations, and learn to use the Desmos-style calculator efficiently — it's a powerful tool that many students underuse.
Start practicing Math →The combined Reading & Writing section uses short passages (25–150 words) with a single question each. Questions test comprehension, grammar, vocabulary in context, and logical transitions. The key skill is reading efficiently — you need to extract the relevant information quickly without getting bogged down. Practice with our English question bank to build this speed.
